Today, the people are heard not in the halls of government, but in the streets. Among many things, Occupy also demonstrates how democracy has failed in America.
Why did this happen?
Is there something intrinsically wrong with democracy that a nation applying it would eventually become so unequal?
Why is it so impossible to effect any meaningful change?
Who really runs the country?
Do new forms of democracy offer a way out of steep decline?
We will look at several movements that are attempting to change the way democracy functions and ask how these can be applied in America today.
